Retail display pricing benchmarks: POP, signage, and shelf collateral
Retail displays, point-of-purchase (POP) materials, and shelf signage are among the most frequently purchased — and most inconsistently priced — categories in trade marketing. A counter card with easel can cost $6 or $138 depending on size, substrate, and vendor. Knowing the range before you approve a quote is the point.
Common retail display types and price ranges
All ranges below are from ClearQuoter's active catalog, derived from three or more independent vendor sources per item. Ranges shown are per-unit at standard production quantities.
Shelf signage
- Shelf talkers (heavy silk, multiple sizes): $0.40–$3.74 per unit. The most common in-aisle signage format. Price driven by substrate weight and finishing.
- Folded shelf talker (5×4–6, with flap): $0.49–$1.35.
- Shelf wobblers (3×3): $1.79–$1.98. Narrow range — this is a commodity item with established pricing.
- Aisle violator (5×5): $2.66–$2.83. Perpendicular shelf-edge signage. Very tight band — consistent pricing across vendors.
- Case cards (5×7): $0.30–$1.20.
Counter cards and displays
- Counter card with easel, 5×7, 24pt card stock: $6.24–$36.00.
- Counter card with easel, 8×10, foam core: $14.82–$138.00. The wide range reflects the difference between a simple die-cut foam board and a premium display with custom finishing.
- Counter card with easel, 5×7, Sintra PVC: $2.50–$24.42. PVC substrate — more durable than paper stock, priced accordingly.
- Foam core counter card with easel, 4×6: $7.49–$26.84.
Floor and freestanding displays
- Retail floor decal (24×36, slip-resistant): $12.71–$61.02. Slip-resistant lamination is the cost driver. A basic vinyl floor graphic is significantly cheaper but may not meet retailer safety requirements.
- Standee / freestanding cutout (up to 60"H): $24.47–$119.95. Die-cut corrugate or foam board.
- Floor stanchion with belt (40"H, 7' belt): $38.99–$116.64. Hardware item — price varies by finish and belt retraction mechanism.
- Endcap display (48×24×60H): $12–$90. Corrugate construction. Price depends on structural complexity and print coverage.
What drives cost
- Substrate. Paper stock is cheapest. Foam core is mid-range. Sintra PVC and acrylic are premium. The same counter card design on 24pt card stock vs. 3mm PVC can cost 5–10× more per unit.
- Size. Linear relationship for printed signage, steeper curve for dimensional displays that require structural engineering.
- Quantity. The per-unit price on a shelf talker drops significantly between 100 and 1,000 units. Above 5,000, the curve flattens. ClearQuoter shows quantity-tier breakdowns where available.
- Finishing. Lamination, UV coating, die-cutting, easel attachment, and shrink-wrapping each add cost. A basic flat-printed card and a laminated die-cut with custom easel are different products at different price points.
