How ClearQuoter uses pricing data.
Where the data comes from, how it becomes a benchmark, and what we do (and do not do) with it.
Publicly available vendor pricing. ClearQuoter builds market benchmarks from published price lists, vendor websites, trade show prospectuses, and rate cards. We collect pricing that vendors have chosen to make public. We do not scrape behind logins, bypass paywalls, or access private systems.
Aggregate ranges, never individual prices. Pricing data from multiple independent vendors is combined into aggregate market ranges. Benchmarks show a price floor and ceiling for a given product at a given quantity. Individual vendor prices are never displayed, attributed, or identifiable within a benchmark.
A benchmark that shows “$3.50 – $8.00” reflects the range across all vendors in our database, not any single vendor’s pricing.
We do not remove publicly available pricing. Comprehensive coverage — including both competitive and premium vendors — is what makes benchmarks accurate. Selective removal would distort the market ranges our subscribers rely on.
We correct confirmed factual errors. Vendors may request correction of factual errors (a price that does not match what is published on their site). We will verify and correct confirmed inaccuracies. Correction requests can be sent to support@clearquoter.co.
No vendor influence over benchmarks. We do not sell vendor data to competing vendors. We do not offer vendors paid placement, premium listings, or any mechanism to influence how their pricing appears in benchmarks. ClearQuoter is funded entirely by buyer subscriptions.
We do not disclose our users. We do not disclose whether any individual or company has used ClearQuoter. User activity, audit history, and submitted quotes are confidential. We will not confirm or deny vendor inquiries about specific users.
When users opt in to contribute pricing data, vendor names in submitted quotes are anonymized using HMAC-SHA256 before appearing in any customer-facing benchmark. Contributed observations are aggregated alongside publicly sourced data. No individual contributed observation is displayed or attributable to a specific source. Users control their contribution preference through account settings.
Contribution is also how the free tier works: full audit verdicts and catalog lookups on a free account are provided in exchange for consented, anonymized contribution of the quote lines you audit. Consent is explicit, can be withdrawn at any time in account settings, and withdrawing it returns future audits to the limited preview. Any account can adjust its contribution preference in settings at any time; Pro access does not depend on contribution.
Pricing facts are not copyrightable (Feist Publications, Inc. v. Rural Telephone Service Co., 499 U.S. 340). ClearQuoter’s compilation of pricing data into structured benchmarks constitutes original work protected under database copyright. Individual prices are factual records of publicly available information.
